Wealth Way by UBS
Wealth, organized around life
UBS is one of the world’s largest wealth managers, and Wealth Way is its framework for organizing a client’s entire financial life around three horizons: Liquidity for now, Longevity for later, Legacy for others. As a senior designer, I owned the two moments that decide whether clients adopt the model: the onboarding and the dashboard. The onboarding guides clients from their financial situation and goals into a personalized plan; the dashboard is where their whole wealth finally becomes legible, organized by time horizon instead of by ticker. Much of the work was making Longevity and Legacy tangible, the hardest to feel because they play out over decades: current vs. target, plan vs. recommendation, today vs. 2040. The real challenge was turning a high-trust, advisor-led, regulated framework into a self-serve digital experience clear enough for a client to navigate on their own.

* UBS surveyed more than 6,200 high net worth investors globally (with at least $1 million in investable assets). Survey results are based on investor responses (either "agree or disagree") to specific questions about the UBS Wealth Way approach as described herein.
Onboarding starts by mirroring the client’s real financial picture back to them, liquid assets, real estate, pension, participations, and the budget behind it, so the plan is grounded in their actual situation, not a generic template. The whole concept is built on a client insight: balancing the now versus the future. Wealth Way aimed to improve that balance, and the results back it up: 80% said the platform actually helped, from a UBS survey of 6,200 high net worth investors.

Before any advice, the client reviews and corrects their wealth and budget. In a regulated, high-trust context, letting people verify the inputs is what makes them trust the output.
Life goals, not just numbers. Concrete, visual goals anchor the abstract idea of wealth planning in the things the client actually wants.
The core of Wealth Way: the client’s wealth split into three horizons, each shown as current vs. target. I visualized this so a decades-long strategy becomes a single, readable comparison. The UX Copy was really important here: I used the phrase "Beyond your timeline" in order to stay discreet on the Legacy part.

05 · INVESTMENT ADVICE
Advice you can touch. Each strategy pairs the UBS recommendation with a slider, so the client sees in real time how moving money between horizons changes the outcome.

06 · THE WEALTH WAY DASHBOARD
The home the client returns to. The dashboard makes the whole plan legible at a glance: total wealth, the Liquidity, Longevity and Legacy split, the projected wealth path to 2042, life plan feasibility, and progress toward each goal. It turns a one time advisory conversation into something the client can live inside.

09 · WHAT SHIPPED AND A PERSONAL NOTE
What shipped: a regulated, advisor led wealth framework turned into a self serve digital experience. Onboarding carries the client from their real financial situation and life goals into a personalized plan; the advice step pairs every UBS recommendation with a live slider; and the dashboard makes decades of Liquidity, Longevity and Legacy legible at a glance. The model holds up with the people it is built for: in UBS’s own client research, 74% say it helps ease anxiety about their financial future and 80% say it helps them balance needs for now with needs for later.
This one changed how I think about money. To design Wealth Way I had to learn wealth planning from the inside: liquidity for now, longevity for later, legacy for others. Somewhere in the middle of it, the project quietly rewrote my own assumptions about wealth and investing. I came out of it a genuine domain expert in a field I had barely thought about before, and it is still a subject that fascinates me today.
